Preparing for your property handover: what cleaning is expected?

Coordinate moving out, end-of-tenancy cleaning and your property handover with clear arrangements, a final check and practical preparation tips.

The last moving box has gone, but there are still a few steps before the keys are returned. A calmer handover starts with clear coordination. Confirm the requirements for your particular property directly with the landlord or property manager. A general checklist cannot replace that discussion.

Clarify expectations before cleaning starts

Ask about the handover procedure and any checklist provided for the property. Which rooms and extra spaces will be inspected? Are there particular instructions for windows, blinds or appliances? Pass relevant information to the cleaning team.

This allows the requirements to be compared with the quoted services before misunderstandings arise on handover day.

Plan the sequence of work

Ideally, rooms should be empty before the final clean begins. Schedule moving work and any tradespeople so that freshly cleaned areas are not immediately soiled again.

Coordinate the cleaning and handover appointments and, where possible, allow time for a final check. Tell the team if your move or inspection date changes.

Organise access and preparation

Agree how keys will be provided and identify a contact person who can be reached. Discuss access to water and electricity and where equipment can be unloaded. Remove belongings, food and rubbish in good time. Coordinate preparation of fridges and freezers with the team and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Check the agreed areas before the inspection

Walk through the kitchen, sanitary areas, glazing, doors and floors, along with any extra rooms included in the booking. Look inside cupboards and along edges that are easy to overlook. Keep the quote and contact details for the people involved available.

Cleaning residue and existing damage are separate matters. Raise uncertainties clearly rather than expecting cleaning to repair damaged surfaces or fittings.

Involve UNA early

Let us know the handover date and the requirements communicated by your property manager. We coordinate the agreed move-out cleaning and practical arrangements with you personally. Any additional work should be clearly addressed in the quote before the appointment.
